Chairman: Ms Lynn Wood

MA, MBA.

Company Director

Lynn is the current chairman of Noni B Ltd (ASX:NBL) and the Australian Financial Reporting Council. She is also a non-executive director of GPT Funds Management Ltd, the Committee for Economic Development of Australia (CEDA) and the External Reporting Board (NZ).

Her previous board positions include HSBC Bank Australia Ltd, Macquarie Goodman Group, NSW Lotteries Corporation and Schroders Australia Ltd as well as numerous positions on audit and compliance committees. Her executive experience includes senior positions in the retail, property and finance sectors. She was also a member of the Foreign Investment Review Board for 15 years to 2010.

She has contributed to the not-for-profit sector through board positions including CEDA, MS Australia Ltd, MS NSW Ltd., Women Chiefs of Enterprise International and the Women's College, University of Sydney. She is a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and was awarded a Centenary Medal in 2003 for services to Australian society through business and finance.

  


Secretary: Mr Greg Sharman

Marketing Consultant

Greg brings extensive corporate marketing and management experience to Good Beginnings Australia. His management background includes senior positions with Westpac, Unilever,Kimberly Clark and AC Nielsen. Additionally, Greg has co-founded several successful start-ups in the e-commerce, web development and interactive marketing sectors.

Greg has long-term involvement in community projects, with a special interest in helping children achieve their full potential. He has served on marketing committees for Good Beginnings since its early years and was appointed a Director in January 2007. He also serves as a Director of School Aid Trust.

 


Treasurer: Ms Deborah Kemp

Group Financial Controller, GrainCorp Limited

Deborah is the Group Financial Controller at GrainCorp Limited with over fifteen years accounting and advisory experience. Her expertise lies in financial accounting and reporting and the alignment of the finance function to support business decisions.

Deborah is committed to supporting the community and enjoys using her finance skills and expertise to work with successful non-profit organisations so that they can create positive outcomes for disadvantaged families and children.

Deborah is a Chartered Accountant and has extensive international experience having worked in Sydney, New York, London and Brussels.

Deborah is a member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

 


Professor Graham Vimpani AM

Professor of Paediatrics and Child Health

Professor Graham Vimpani AM is Professor of Community Child Health and Head of the Discipline of Paediatrics and Child Health at the University of Newcastle; Clinical Chair of Kaleidoscope: Hunter Children’s Health Network within the Hunter New England Area Health Service; and Medical Director of the Child Protection Team of the John Hunter Children’s Hospital in Newcastle. He is a community paediatrician and has a longstanding interest in promoting child development through a range of social policies and early intervention strategies that address the support needs of families with young children. His research interests have spanned childhood injury prevention, child protection, the impact of lead on child development, the evaluation of home visiting, health outcomes in adolescent boys and the links between socio-economic inequality and child health.

He is Chairman of the Board of NIFTeY Australia (the National Investment for the Early Years) - a cross-sectoral advocacy body designed to promote greater awareness of the importance of the early years of life.

He has a Ministerial appointment as Co-Chair of the NSW Government Children’s Health Priority Taskforce and member of the NSW Health Advisory Council. Professor Vimpani also serves on the Northern Territory Child Protection External Monitoring and Reporting Committee.

Professor Vimpani was a recipient of the Centenary Medal in 2003 for services to early childhood and in January 2007 he was awarded an AM. He is a Board Member of several NGOs concerned with children’s welfare.

 


Mr Hugh King

Lawyer

Hugh King is a private sector lawyer and has been based in Sydney throughout his professional life. At all times he has specialized in the broad areas of commercial law, governance, ethics and the process of government.

He graduated in Arts and Law from the University of Sydney and was admitted as a Solicitor in 1968. He joined Phillips Fox (now DLA Piper), which during his thirty years as a partner grew from a small Sydney commercial law practice to become a major Australian and international law firm. Since July 2001 he has been a Consultant to DLA Phillips Fox and as such he retains access to its people, skills and facilities across Australia.

In July 2001 he separately joined a new strategy and policy consultancy with his colleague Paul Barratt AO, working for national and international clients out of Sydney, Melbourne and Canberra. Hugh continues as a solicitor and is an active member of law profession groups including the Law Society of New South Wales. Since 1990 he has been a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors, and until 2005 was a member of the Institute of Public Administration of Australia.

He is married to Dr Jill King a Sydney medical specialist, and has two adult children.

 


Mr Ron Spithill

BSC Technology, Graduate Harvard Executive Program, FTSE.

Company Director

Ron has an extensive background in the telecommunications industry. He was previously President of Alcatel Asia Pacific responsible for operations in 16 countries and employing 10,000 people, Executive Vice President and Chief
Marketing Officer of the Paris-Based Alcatel group and Vice-Chairman of Alcatel Shanghai Bell. He has been CEO and Chairman of Alcatel Australia and Chairman/Director of eight other Group Companies in Asia.

Ron is a regular speaker at international industry and business events, and has addressed the World Economic Forum. He has been an advisor to a number of Governments including Malaysia, Singapore and China. He is past President of
the Telecommunications Industry Association of Australia. He was made a Distinguished Fellow of the Telecommunications Society of Australia in 2003 and is a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Technological Sciences and Engineering (FTSE).

In addition to serving on the Good Beginnings Board, Ron is also a Director of Glaucoma Australia and Vodafone Hutchinson Australia.

Born in Australia, Ron has spent the last decade living in Shanghai and Paris and is now again resident in Sydney.
